KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has called on Malaysians to turn the racial and religious diversity of the community into a strength to continue building the country, in the spirit of Christmas tomorrow amid the new normal.
He said that all Malaysians should be thankful that every festival of the country’s multi-racial and multi-religious community can be celebrated in a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere.
“I would like to wish Merry Christmas to all Christians who celebrate this auspicious occasion.
“Christmas Day gives us the opportunity, as a plural society, to observe customs and traditions, not only with family members, but also with friends and other people from all walks of life,” he said today in his Christmas message.
With the COVID-19 pandemic underway, the Prime Minister said this year’s Christmas celebration would not be as happy as before, especially house-to-house visits from family and friends would be limited, while the open house should be. done in moderation.
“My advice is, for the common good, to celebrate this occasion in a moderate way, complying with the SOPs or established guidelines, such as taking body temperature, ensuring physical distancing and no handshakes.
“Just bow your head slightly and place your hand on your chest as a sign of respect. Practice the new rules by washing your hands often and wearing a mask correctly. “
Earlier, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah also extended their Christmas and New Year greetings.
Sultan Abdullah is currently in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on a special five-day visit and is scheduled to return home tomorrow.
