YOUR OPINION | “Dr. M is like a monster from a horror movie, he keeps coming back.”
ADUN SPEAKS | Say goodbye to Mahathir for the misery he has caused
What is your name: This ultra-Malay named Dr. Mahathir Mohamad started his plan, or what I call “spitting out his racial poison”, from his Umno days.
Therefore, the sayings “a leopard never changes its spots” and “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” fit very well. The older generation commenting here may agree with me, as many of them had observed their behavior over the past decades. This includes Penang II Senior Vice Minister P Ramasamy.
Mahathir has grown worse and worse since publishing his “The Malay Dilemma,” followed by his dismissal by Tunku Abdul Rahman in 1969, and ruined Malaysian education in 1974 as education minister under Tun Abdul Razak. The education system has not recovered since.
Abdul Razak and Hussein Onn could be blamed for failing to stop this ultra-Malaysian, but Malaysian voters should also bear some of the blame, as many continued to vote for BN until 2018.
All Malaysians, here and abroad, should totally repudiate it and ignore it until it stops making statements.
I think, therefore I exist: Failing to see anyone but himself in command of the nation, Mahathir will be a persistent obstacle to anyone with the ambition to be prime minister. At 95, he is like a child who cannot share or let someone else have his favorite toy – the highest political office in Malaysia.
While he should be credited with helping Pakatan Harapan overthrow Umno / BN, Mahathir should also be blamed for Harapan’s unexpected and untimely death. The reason it is still on the Malaysian political landscape is largely because it has managed to thwart any meaningful leadership succession plans.
We must move on. We need to ensure that Anwar Ibrahim is the next prime minister so that he can dismantle Mahathir’s shameful legacy and pull us out of this downward spiral.
OrangeViper4306: According to Mahathir, Anwar is not fit to be prime minister, but what about all those he appointed as deputy prime ministers and prime ministers? He brought them in and cut them.
In his mind, only he is capable despite all the big scandals, starting with Maminco, and the list goes on until his sons are super magnates. With three MPs backing him, he still says he should become prime minister a third time. What a joke.
Ahmed: Mahathir has stated that Anwar is not suitable material for the prime minister. Personally, I would not give any weight to his point of view, if you take into account his terrible record when judging people.
He fought with Musa Hitam (the best deputy prime minister Malaysia ever had) and Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, another talented politician. And don’t forget that it was he who strongly supported Najib Abdul Razak and made it possible for him to become Prime Minister.
Given Mahathir’s bad judgment record, his rejection is an excellent reason to support Anwar in the highest position.
Ganesan Fact: Don’t blame others. In 2018, Ramasamy, Anwar and the Lims (Kit Siang and Guan Eng) used Mahathir as a springboard to get to the positions that everyone wanted.
Malaysians had high hopes that 2018 would be the year of ‘Merdeka’. Did you voice your objection against Mahathir as prime minister in 2018?
P. Ramlee: Ramasamy, I’m not interested in talking about his first term in office, but Mahathir has done a lot of good things for us after 2018. So I would appreciate if you could be a bit more objective and also critical of Anwar when needed. Some facts to refresh your memories:
-
When our beloved king gave all MPs a second chance to prevent the back door from forming the government, all 92 MPs from Harapan voted for Anwar when Mahathir already had 66 votes. Why can’t you vote for him?
-
When Mahathir claimed he had the numbers to regain control a few months ago, Harapan / Anwar refused to endorse him, why?
A Malay: @P Ramlee, could the old fox have made it without the original Harapan components?
With only 66 votes compared to Anwar’s 92, why didn’t he endorse Anwar, rather than selfishly wanting to be prime minister for the third time?
Why did you resign in the first place and demand the position this time with only a handful of followers? Use your brain a bit.
Appum: This old fox thinks he is just like Lee Kuan Yew from Singapore.
But let’s compare the factual situations of both countries, one is stagnant and still trying to move to the developed state, while the other is far ahead (despite not having natural resources).
Mahathir could have done better than Lee, but he chose to follow his narcissistic path, creating racial and religious divisions, pitting bumiputera with no bumiputera, and coining terms like ‘contender’.
As a result, it has caused this nation to regress, rather than progress. Of course, he has gone on to build major projects like the Petronas Twin Towers and Putrajaya to reinforce his legacy. What legacy has he achieved for the people compared to Lee?
Are there massive housing plans and a high-quality education system? Playing with race and religion for support is the easiest and most degrading effort a leader can make. What about the state in the end? Stagnation, regression and doomed to failure.
IndigoTrout2522: Yes, say goodbye to Mahathir. He cannot be trusted in any way because he is hungry for power. The only thing that matters to you is your own personal agenda and ambition. For him, nobody is capable of being prime minister except him.
Just look at your history. It is his way or the highway for everyone who had worked with him or for him. Anwar is no exception, so the problem is not Anwar but Mahathir. Harapan just needs to keep going.
Just a Malay: Mahathir is like a horror movie. Just when you thought you had defeated the monster, it comes back to bite you. You keep fighting to kill the monster, but it just won’t die. It keeps coming back in different forms and it keeps spewing the same poison.
Even when you think the movie is over, just before you get up from your seat, he comes out again.
