PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan will continue to fight to return the people’s mandate to the right party, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim say in a joint statement.

The president of the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and the president of PKR said that currently, institutional reforms, the rule of law and the economy had been disrupted because certain parties had their own agendas.

“The people’s mandate has been betrayed and the Pakatan government fell last February when Covid-19 was beginning to affect the country.

“Today’s government would do anything to consolidate power.

“We do not recognize this government. Our principles are clear from the first day that this government was formed and is standing without the mandate of the people, “they said yesterday in a statement to mark the anniversary of the day Pakatan won the 14th General Election that overthrew Barisan Nasional.

They noted that the current government was not legally obtained through the ballot box in a general election, adding that it was based on greed for the posts.

“We do not want to sacrifice our morals and ethics to support this government.

“We don’t want to betray the people who had lined up at the polling stations to vote, spent hundreds to fly back to vote, took unpaid leave to change the destiny of this country again,” they said.

The two added that two years ago, people of different religions and races had come together to support their effort, among others, by donating, to see the change in the country.

“Two years ago, we didn’t give up to let people’s voices be heard. Today is the same. We have long rejected differences, disputes, crises for the people.

“Now we are old, we don’t have much time. But the spirit of struggle still burns in the souls of young people who dream of reform. The time has come for us to rise up again and continue to return the mandate of the people to the right party, ”they said.

They also noted that on May 9, the world witnessed history when Malaysia formed a new government that upheld the rule of law, moral values and responsibility, adding that May 9 was also not just an event that recalled the Unity between each Malay but an event that raised the destiny and future of the people, as well as to fight against injustice in the country.

They also said that when Pakatan ruled, they made sure that democracy prospered, adding that the Dewan Rakyat received a new life; Institutional reform and public administration became the heart of the country, the states received the same attention through political lines, and there was freedom of expression.

“All of this became the priority of the Pakatan government,” they said.
