Leicester midfielder James Maddison has offered a timely reminder that his team is suffering from an injury crisis similar to Liverpool’s.
Liverpool They have suffered a notable drop in form last season, which has led to their current problems.
But while poor form is a key factor, the first team’s lack of vital talent due to injury has also played a role. The Reds don’t have bigger center halves, with head back Fabinho also out of the game.
In addition, the attacking substitute, Diogo Jota, has a knee injury. As such, James Milner’s hamstring problem turned him into 10 older stars who are currently out of action.
However, speaking with BT sportMaddison noted that his side also does not have a certificate of good health. Timothy Castagne, Denis Praet, Wesley Fofana, and James Justin are all out.
“We have a lot of injuries, by the way.” England international Maddison said. “It is not talked about because we are not the ‘Big Six’, but we are using the team brilliantly.
“We are up there and not by chance.”
Maddison was talking after Leicester significantly boosted their top-four hopes by beating Liverpool 3-1.
The victory pushed the Foxes six points ahead of the Reds. More importantly now, however, they have also stayed ahead of Chelsea and West Ham, who could push Liverpool even further down with their own victories.
Jamie Vardy ended his recent goal drought with one of the easiest goals of his career. The Englishman was available to crash into the empty net after a mix-up between Alisson Becker and Ozan Kabak.
Maddison offers reviews of Vardy, Alisson
“That’s what Vardy does [cause problems], he takes advantage of those opportunities, “added the midfielder.
“A confusion between the central half and the goalkeeper and it’s just one of those things, I don’t think you can look at it too much.
“Alisson is obviously going through a difficult time right now, the last game and today, but he is a great goalkeeper and I am sure he will come back.”
LeicesterThe victory was also important given that Brendan Rodgers’ men had lost 4-0 at King Power Stadium to Liverpool last season.
“We know that when we face Liverpool, it will be difficult because they can do both parts of the game very well, they can build and they can pass and they can be direct with [Mohamed] Bad and [Sadio] Mane running behind, “he added.
“It’s a matter of staying in the game, we are a top team now with good quality, so we know that if we have chances, we can eliminate them and it showed because in 12 minutes we turned the game around.
“Games can change so quickly in the Premier League and the more they started to change, the more it opened up for players like [Harvey] Barnes, with more room on the counter, we used it brilliantly, I think. “
