PETALING JAYA: A senior company official will be indicted tomorrow in the Court of Sessions for firing a whistleblower who reported the official’s misconduct to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
In a statement today, MACC said the defendants will be charged under Section 10 (3) (b) of the Whistleblower Protection Act of 2010 (Law 711).
According to MACC, the charge is the first since the law took effect in 2010.
“MACC is deeply concerned about the problems that whistleblowers face, should they be punished for reporting corruption committed by certain parties,” he said.
The anti-bribery agency added that it would not hesitate to investigate those who attempt to take action against whistleblowers.
He said this case would encourage the public to cooperate with enforcement agencies to provide information on cases of corruption and abuse of power without any fear.
“The charges in this case are also expected to teach a lesson to those trying to punish whistleblowers,” he said.
