PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) detained three more immigration officers, including a deputy director stationed at KL International Airport (KLIA), in connection with a national bombing codenamed “Ops Selat”.

Sources said the three people, ages 38 to 54, were detained at MACC headquarters on Friday (November 20).

The most recent arrests bring the number of detainees in Ops Selat from November 16 to 53, including 33 immigration officers stationed at KLIA, KLIA2 and Bangunan Sultan Ismail Johor Baru.

Sources revealed that the three immigration officers were taken to the Putrajaya Magistrates Court on Saturday (November 21) for pretrial detention.

“The MACC has also asked to extend pretrial detention for 10 other suspects.

“MACC also released two civilians on bail. The duo had allowed their accounts to be used for corruption transactions,” the sources added.

The bribery hunters were reportedly unable to believe what they saw in their investigation into an immigration union offering “special services”: a luxury car fleet consisting of a Rolls Royce Phantom, a Ford Mustang, a Range Rover and a Audi.

All four cars were seized, adding to an overall loot that included more than RM800,000 in cash, another 22 luxury cars, four high-powered motorcycles, as well as other assets such as houses, land, jewelry and designer handbags. .

The union that provides “sealing facilities” for foreign workers and illegal immigrants is believed to be involved in international human trafficking, particularly in China, Vietnam, Indonesia and Bangladesh.

This was discovered during union investigations which found that foreign agents had been working with immigration officers at KLIA and KLIA2 to assist foreigners in and out of Malaysia.

Sources close to MACC said investigators were surprised to discover that a low-ranking immigration officer owned a fleet of luxury cars.
