A source says the suspect was arrested after giving his statement at MACC headquarters in Putrajaya yesterday.

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested a former chief deputy secretary of a federal ministry on suspicion of taking bribes.

The suspect, who is now the director of a training center, is alleged to have taken bribes from companies supplying fertilizers worth RM 118 million to the ministry.

According to an insider, the 42-year-old former high-ranking official was arrested after giving his statement at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya yesterday.

“The RM 118 million tender was awarded to three companies, but all three companies belong to the same individual,” the source said.

The source added that the case is being investigated under Section 16 (a) (B) of the MACC Act and that MACC has obtained a seven-day pretrial detention order for the suspect.

When contacted, MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed the arrest but declined to comment further.
