TEBEDU (15 October): The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested 60 people in Sarawak for various corruption offenses involving bribes amounting to about 2.4 million ringgit between January 1 and October 14, this year.
Sarawak MACC Director Mohd Zaki Hassan said 49 investigative documents were opened under the MACC Act of 2009 during the period, and 30 of the people have been arrested and charged in court.
“Of the 49 investigation documents, 19 were investigated under Section 17 (b) (MACC Act of 2009) for bribing public officials, while 12 cases were under Section 17 (a) for accepting bribes.
“11 more cases were under Section 23 for abuse of position, six were investigated under Section 18 for making false claims, while one case was under Section 16 (a) for demanding bribery,” he told reporters after launching the “Our Border, Our Dignity” program with immigration law enforcement agencies.
