CITY OF GEORGEThe Supreme Court here today sentenced a pair of lovers to death after finding them guilty of the murder of a five-year-old boy who is also the son of the accused, six years ago.
Judicial Commissioner Datuk Ahmad Shahrir Mohd Salleh sentenced R. Saravanan Kumar (pix), 30, and T. Gayathry, 36, after finding that the defense had not established reasonable doubts at the end of the trial.
In his sentencing, Ahmad Shahrir said that the court could not accept the alibi of the first defendant, Saravanan Kumar, that he was not present at the scene because there were no written statements from witnesses.
It also found that the second defendant, Gayathry, had not acted like a mother when faced with the murder of her son.
“They left you home alone for four hours after the first defendant took the victim’s body out of the house and you didn’t ask for help during that period,” he said.
Ahmad Shahrir added that Gayathry was willing to wash the bloodstained toilet after witnessing the murder of her own son.
“What the second defendant did was beyond reason,” he said.
On October 13, 2014, the lovers were indicted in the Bukit Mertajam Session Court for the murder of S. Kaviarasan, 5.
They were charged with committing the crime at Taman Keladi in Kulim, Kedah, between 8 a.m. on September 20 and 4 p.m. on September 27, 2014.
Kaviarasan’s body was later found dumped in the bushes of an oil palm farm near Permatang Tinggi, Bukit Tengah, Butterworth on September 29, 2014.
The prosecution was handled by Deputy Prosecutor Yasinnisa Begam Seeni Mohideen, while attorney V. Parthipan represented Saravanan Kumar and attorney Gabriel Susayan represented Gayathry.Named
