KUALA LUMPUR: Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob says the government is still distributing aid and supplies to migrants in areas under blockade, although most of the contributions generally come from NGOs.
He said state or federal governments will be the ones to distribute the food, adding that those who have not been receiving supplies can contact the National Disaster Management Agency or the National Security Council (MKN).
“Even before (when the MCO was first implemented), food was delivered to everyone, including locked-in migrants. We also distribute the articles to them.
“For migrants, it is usually the NGOs that contribute with the food, because we know that the cost can be high. But everyone will get food on the basis of humanity, “he said today at a press conference.
Ismail also said 381 people were arrested by police yesterday for violating the ongoing recovery MCO, with 372 of them fined and nine in pre-trial detention.
Most of them were sanctioned for not registering customers’ personal data when entering stores (66), not wearing a mask in crowded public areas (151), not practicing physical distancing (37) and organizing private parties (26) .
Authorities also detained 46 undocumented immigrants yesterday as part of the ongoing Benteng Ops. They also seized four vehicles.
Of the 385 people who returned to Malaysia yesterday from various countries, 384 are in quarantine and one is being treated for Covid-19.
