PUTRAJAYA: The government has urged local authorities to crack down on pubs and nightclubs operators who disobey the movement control order (MCO).

Chief Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that despite numerous warnings from the government, the number of people caught for bar activities continues to rise.

“The government’s instruction not to allow pubs and nightlife venues to operate during MCO is clear.

“However, the number of people caught for violating this order continues to increase day by day.

“On December 12, 292 were captured for pub activity, the highest in one day so far.

“I would like to remind the local authorities not to compromise with these operators. Permanently revoke licenses if they are found to be floating in this rule.

“It is the responsibility of each person to help curb the spread of Covid-19,” Ismail said at a press conference on Tuesday (December 15).

Ismail said that police arrested 201 people on Monday (December 14) for various MCO violations, such as not wearing masks and nightlife activities.

All were cast compounds.

The controls were carried out by nearly 3,000 control teams in supermarkets, restaurants, street vendors, factories, banks and government buildings across the country.
