Liverpool’s Diogo Jota warned the referee that he would throw himself during the Premier League win against Leicester

Diogo Jota is proving to be an absolute bargain for Liverpool.

Many fans and experts alike raised their eyebrows when it turned out that Jurgen Klopp’s men had shell out over £ 40 million for the Wolverhampton Wanderers forward this summer.

Furthermore, it came just months after Chelsea defeated the Reds against Timo Werner and doubts began to arise about Roberto Firmino’s form after just nine league goals last season.

The incredible form of Jota

But those concerns couldn’t seem any more silly now that the Portugal international has started working in Merseyside and, frankly, has been one of the club’s star players.

The Kopites are genuinely debating whether Jota deserves a spot in the once unremovable front three lineup comprised of Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

And it’s hard enough to dismiss those reflections considering that Jota has already scored eight goals in the famous red jersey, including a Champions League hat-trick against Atalanta.

Jota scores in Leicester win

But it is at Anfield that Jota has felt most at home, becoming the first Liverpool player in history to score in his first four Premier League appearances at the famous old field.

Jota scored a trio of top flight winners for England against Arsenal, Sheffield United and West Ham United, although the weekend arguably brought their all-important goal of all.

The 23-year-old capped an astounding 30-pass play by heading a cross from Andrew Robertson to score the second goal in a 3-0 win over Leicester City, moving the Reds to the joint top.

Jota says: Next time I’ll dive

It couldn’t be more apparent that Jota is exactly the type of character Liverpool and Klopp are proud to buy and found in more than one case against the Foxes.

We say this because of Leicester’s victory came a clip of Jota who is both fighter and fun in equal measure, warning the referee: ‘Next time I’ll jump’ after receiving a push in the back.

It’s certainly brilliant to see the Liverpool striker talking to the match official with such cheek and you can join the Kopites who have already enjoyed the footage by watching him here:

Go on, Diogo, tell him how you really feel.

A Liverpool fan rightly reacted on Reddit writing: “That’s why players jump in, the referee won’t help them if they stay upright the entire time a foul occurs.”

Striking lightness

If there is any benefit to not having fans in the stadium right now, it is being able to hear what the players are saying most often and this is one of the most interesting clips to come out.

However, it is certainly shocking to hear a player talk so casually about diving onto the field because while Jota surely wasn’t being serious, it is a sad mention of the role of cheating in the modern game.

I’m sure Chris Kavanagh didn’t like that an embarrassing part of the game was threatened as if it were nothing, especially when the reality of diving can cost great results and entire seasons.

He will undoubtedly have many rival fans sniffing around as he sees that Liverpool, particularly Salah, have, rightly or wrongly, earned a reputation for diving in recent seasons.

We are inclined to think that the shouts of ‘LiVARpool’ border on hyperbolic, but even we cannot deny that some of the penalties Salah has won in the Premier League have been a bit suspicious.

Luckily Jota was only playing last night and we have yet to see the Portuguese crash into the grass like a sack of bricks … although, again, Jota said he would ‘next time’, right?
