Liverpool are always trying to improve on and off the pitch, and that could mean another transfer or two this summer.
However, with the window open until October this year, there are no quick fixes guaranteed and no quick fix needed after the Reds won the Premier League title.
Left-back Kostas Tsimikas enters, while Dejan Lovren has been sold and both Nathaniel Clyne and Adam Lallana have left on free transfers. Ovie Ejaria also made his loan assignment to Reading permanent this week.
Looking ahead, Jurgen Klopp may want to bring in one or two more, as rumors continue to circulate about the departure of the current team members.
Thiago deadline set by Bayern
Rumors that Liverpool are looking at Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara have refused to go away.
However, there has been no talk of an imminent bid, even after Bayern ended their season succeeding Liverpool as Champions of the Champions League.
There could be a problem if the Reds want the playmaker, if the reports are to be believed. Varsky Sports says, according to talkSPORT, that Bayern have set a one-week deadline to complete any deal.
The suggestion is that Liverpool will prepare an offer that includes bonuses and add-ons, as they do not want to pay the full initial price.
Brazilian plug on the Reds’ radar
Liverpool want goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga, according to Globo Esporte.
The youngster plays for Fluminense but has a German passport, allowing him to move to Europe without a hitch, and the suggestion is that he impressed Alisson Becker earlier this year.
The current Liverpool No. 1 was training with the Brazilian team in February, having returned to his homeland during the Premier League winter break, while his brother and teammate Muriel plays for that club.
The Reds have made a proposal to take 17-year-old Pitaluga this summer, which the Brazilian team could accept in the face of a financial crisis.
Be open to a change of scenery
Mundo Deportivo says Sadio Mane is open to moving to Barcelona, since his relationship with Klopp “is not the same as a year ago.”
The Spanish media says he is a possible replacement for Lionel Messi, suggesting that Mane sees the “glass half full” on a trade to Barca, even though the Spanish club appears to be on the decline while Liverpool are at the top.
One suggestion in the report is that Mane feels he does not receive the recognition he deserves for his hard work and performance, which is “reserved for Egyptian teammate Mohamed Salah.”
The suggested starting price is 120 million euros (107 million pounds sterling), and even then Klopp could “close the door” on the deal.
Brewster ‘ready for loan from Blades’
Sheffield United wants Rhian Brewster and is in advanced talks to get him on loan, says the Sheffield Star.
The report says the Blades would be open to a permanent deal, but are more likely to get a loan given the forward’s growing reputation.
Several Premier League clubs are known to be hoping to take over Brewster this season, after an impressive half-season on loan with Swansea City last season.
He has scored three goals in preseason, in just two supplemental appearances.
And Jurgen Klopp has described him as “a true spiker” despite the forward missing a penalty in Liverpool’s loss to Arsenal in the Community Shield on Saturday.
