Liverpool have made a breakthrough in the saga that had threatened to drag on for much of the transfer window, by agreeing a deal for Thiago Alcántara of Bayern Munich.
The Spanish international will enter the Premier League as one of the best and most decorated midfielders in the world.
Aside from the Thiago chase, Liverpool have tentatively linked up with a handful of younger players.
That includes Jeremy Doku, a Portuguese winger and RSC Anderlecht winger, whose contract expires in less than two years.

Champions League champions Bayern Munich have struck a deal to sell 29-year-old Spanish midfielder Thiago to English champion Liverpool for a fee of £ 27 million.
Speaking to BILD, the club’s executive director, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, broke the news, stating; “I can confirm that FC Bayern has finally reached an agreement with Liverpool.”
“It was a great desire for Thiago to do something new at the end of his career,” added Rummenigge.
The deal puts an end to rumors that Thiago could join rivals Manchester United this summer, much to the delight of Liverpool fans.
Thiago will wear jersey number 6 at Anfield for the 2020-21 season.

Various football figures have intervened in the discussion about Thiago’s transfer to Liverpool. Reds winger Andy Robertson spoke to Sky Sports News referring to the Spaniard as a “fantastic player.”
Meanwhile, Sky Sports expert Gary Neville described the two-time Champions League winner as “world class.”
“[He] It would give them a world-class presence in an area of the field where they don’t have a world-class presence. They need that impetus to stay where they are, ”joked the former Manchester United defender.
In Germany, Bayern head coach Hansi Flick praised his playmaker who was leaving; “Thiago is an extraordinary player and he was very important to us, my coaching team and I enjoyed working with him.”
The praise of the signing and the player has been brilliant. It will be interesting to see if the Spaniard can replicate his success in the Bundesliga on the English shores.
Transfer tug of war for sporty teen
Liverpool’s inactivity in the transfer market ends with the signing of Thiago and the interest reported by Sporting Clube de Portugal side Nuno Mendes.
The 18-year-old received much praise from all corners of Europe during the period after last season’s lockdown in Portugal, graduating from the first team with Ruben Amorim and maintaining his place in the team.

Arsenal are also said to be interested in the teenager, which means Liverpool could face a challenge to catch the Sporting academy product.
Portuguese media A Bola also reported on the interest from Serie A, with Juventus and AC Milan curious about how the 18-year-old develops over the course of this season.
The Daily Star noted that both Arsenal and Liverpool have left-back options currently, so he may not move for Mendes before the window closes in October.
