Liverpool reportedly started talks to secure Sven Botman’s services in the January transfer window in a deal of around £ 20 million.
According to claims made by Duncan Castles on the Transfer Window Podcast, as broadcast by the Daily Express, Liverpool are in talks with Sven Botman’s entourage about a possible move in the January transfer window. Lille’s central defender could be available for as little as £ 20 million.
Botman only joined Lille from Ajax last summer, but has made an immediate impact on the Ligue 1 club. In fact, the 20-year-old Dutch defender has appeared in every one of Lille’s 23 matches in all competitions so far this season and has even provided assistance at one of the outings.
However, Botman’s future at Stade Pierre Mauroy is highly uncertain due to the financial struggles that Mastiffs they are wrapped. As a result, it has been argued that the youngster could already be leaving Lille in the January transfer window to alleviate some of his problems. With two of their three recognized high-level central defenders on the sidelines, it’s not hard to see why the Reds would be eager to beef up their defense in the January transfer window.
However, there were also suggestions that Liverpool might be willing to postpone such a move depending on how Fabinho fared as an impromptu central defender, in addition to youngsters like Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips, whenever the opportunity arose. While all three have impressed, the Premier League champions could still be forced to enter the market.
That’s because Joel Matip is out for nearly a month after sustaining an injury last week, which means that Jurgen Klopp’s options have narrowed further. As a result, Liverpool’s ties to various center-backs, including Eder Militao and Botman, make sense. Now, however, it looks like the latter could be your priority for the January transfer window.

At 21, Botman has his best years ahead of him and could be molded in Klopp’s image, with compatriot van Dijk present to guide him until he reaches his peak. What now remains to be seen is whether Liverpool make a move to sign the Dutchman with an offer worth around £ 20 million.
