Liverpool defender Ki-Jana Hoever is close to sealing a move to the Wolves after the Reds took a 180-degree turn to their future, according to a report.
The 18-year-old He only signed a new long-term contract last summer, after his 2018 move from Ajax.
According to the Daily mail, Liverpool insiders were initially willing to send him on loan for the current campaign.
However, the newspaper claims that they have changed their minds and are close to agreeing to their permanent departure.
Liverpool and the Wolves have agreed on the terms of Hoever’s move, which will cost around £ 10 million.
The wolves are reportedly looking to Hoever, a right back by trade, as an option on right back as well as center back.
In fact, he is likely to gain playing time following Matt Doherty’s recent move to Tottenham.
Hoever made his Liverpool debut last January against Wolves in the third round of the FA Cup. By replacing the injured Dejan Lovren that night, he became the Reds’ youngest rookie.
Although, 17-year-old Harvey Elliott has now taken that accolade.
In the 2019/20 season, Hoever made three more first-team appearances. He participated in the Liverpool Carabao Cup qualifiers against MK Dons and Aston Villa, while also playing in the FA Cup fourth round victory over Shrewsbury.
LIVERPOOL RESTORATION BALANCE SHEET AMID THIAGO OFFERING
Liverpool’s decision to sell Hoever could be related to the club’s decision to increase interest in Thiago Alcantara.
The Reds reached an initial £ 20 million deal with Bayern Munich for the midfielder. Boss Jurgen Klopp has continually reiterated his side’s financial model of spending the funds raised.
Hoever’s £ 10 million sale, added to Dejan Lovren’s £ 10.9 million exit, would balance the books at Anfield.
However, Liverpool could still shed more young talent. Sheffield United is interested in young forward Rhian Brewster and latest reports state that an offer has come in from the Blades.
