Omar was right, as he did in many ways from the legacy HBO series The wire. The sentiment is maintained now more than ever with Liverpool, who are locked in the dark room of the foundation of football in England, still waiting for the crown they were inches away from donning.
But make no mistake, they are now the number one goal. The recent BBC poll finally led to the award of the “game of the season” as Watford’s 3-0 win over the Reds at Vicarage Road in March. That tells its own story in many ways, mainly that Liverpool is the story. Now they are walking, when they are free to do so, with a massive target behind them.
That does not mean that it is not an unjustified label in any way. The Reds have given severe punishment in the Premier League this season, and revenge will be very important to many when the opportunity comes to fight again on the field.

Compiling a list of possible suspects is a more intriguing case than a whodunit crime thriller. To get some out; Manchester City will be desperate for the redemption of the title, Tottenham still licks Madrid’s wounds, Manchester United suffered the glee of Anfield’s title and Everton has had what now feels like a lifetime of custard cakes straight into face at the hands of your neighbors.
That’s before you think about the perceived injustices of teams like Aston Villa, Leicester City and Arsenal. The “we owe them one” atmosphere will be stronger than ever, as will Liverpool’s pedigree. That’s what carries him with additional danger: Liverpool now looks like the highest bar, beats them and you become the Kingslayer.
It is best to find a way to deal with this advance. A by-product of success is that you win in many ways, and most importantly, you ignore any kind of narrative or feeling against you. That’s what makes success sustained and what Liverpool has in abundance when it comes to strength. Strength of mindset will be key in all kinds of ways when soccer returns. For the Reds, this is just another thing to add to the list of barriers that awaits them.
