Liverpool fans’ eyebrows appear to have been permanently set in a high position over the past few weeks. From the defeat at Villa Park, to the VAR controversy in the Merseyside derby, and then the persistent series of injuries that continue to occur, there have already been many reasons for concern.
One player whose physical form appears to be uncertain at the moment is Andy Robertson, who just days ago was said to have a hamstring problem. However, with only a couple of days to recover, he not only started Scotland’s game against Israel on Wednesday night, but played the full 90 minutes.
What could go wrong? Well, at least at first glance, Robertson came out of the game unscathed and without further damage. Still, there will be concern from Liverpool that one of their key players has been used to a full game while allegedly injured.
We’ll know more when Klopp gives his press conference on Friday ahead of the weekend’s clash against Leicester City. Injuries will undoubtedly be the biggest talking point, with a large number of players already on the sidelines and the condition of several others in question.
Let’s go back to Robertson, and there is little chance that Jurgen Klopp will be happy with his left-back playing a full game so close to when he should return to Merseyside. Robertson will return to Kirkby and be evaluated as is the norm for players returning from international service, and then a recovery period will begin.
Most likely, unless a new injury emerges, Robertson will play Leicester on Sunday. The problem comes later, when the encounters become harsher and more frequent. Given the amount of football the Scottish international has already played, it is impossible to expect him to continue playing and not expect injury to occur.
This is where the true value of signing Kostas Tsimikas will come true. He was booked purely for this situation, to give Robertson a break without losing that attacking threat he poses in games. The summer addition has been playing for Greece during the international break, so he has had a chance to get decent minutes under his belt.

We’ve only seen him perform in the Liverpool jersey twice so far, and none of them have been in the Premier League. That will surely have to change over the course of the next few weeks, perhaps even against Leicester in some shape or form.
No one could have foreseen the injury situation Liverpool are currently in, especially those close to the club. It is imperative that the most important players are wrapped in cotton and prevented as much as possible from further injury. Robertson certainly falls into that category.
He has been a player who has often played through the pain barrier, and will only be ruled out of a game if there is no chance that he can perform at his best. It is this same attribute that makes him so beloved by Kopites.
Liverpool, and more specifically the club’s medical and fitness departments, are faced with a job to make sure Robertson is available for as many matches as possible. However, with Tsimikas as an option, there is an opportunity to give the Scottish skipper a much-needed break when the need arises.
What I read on Liverpool.com
Joel has put together a really good piece that features an interesting version of the time capsule Liverpool have installed as a new training ground in Kirkby. Check it out here.
There’s also a brilliant Max Riegel read, by Ollie Connolly, looking at the latest financial venture taken over by FSG.
What i am seeing
I was on a day off on Wednesday and as a result did not participate in this week’s Liverpool.com podcast. Dan, Joel and Ollie delve into various issues surrounding the club, including the debate over what happened to Thiago Alcântara, the upcoming match schedule and whether a new center-back is needed in the January transfer window.
