JURGEN KLOPP has braked to allow star Rhys Williams out on loan.
The 19-year-old Liverpool center-back was wanted by a host of championship clubs, including play-off contenders Middlesbrough.
Boro’s manager Neil Warnock even dropped a hint that he had already spoken to the teen about a possible move to The Riverside to aid in his search for the top six.
But the veteran and his transfer rivals appear to have to look for defensive reinforcements elsewhere.
Williams, who was on loan at Kidderminster out of the league last season, has enjoyed a dramatic rise at Anfield this season.
With Virgil van Dijk ruled out for the season plus injuries to Klopp’s other four established members, he has appeared nine times with the Reds.
Most of his appearances have been in the Carabao Cup and the Champions League, but he earned plenty of praise for his performance in the crunchy 2-1 win over Tottenham at midweek.
Even though he was an unused substitute in Crystal Palace’s 7-0 hammering on Saturday, interest in the youngster has continued to grow.
Klopp was considering allowing him to join future aces, like Harvey Elliott at Blackburn, to head to the second tier to further his development and get regular action in the match.
But after a series of confident demonstrations and concerns about defensive coverage, the Anfield boss is reluctant to let him go next month.
Warnock, whose team beat Birmingham 4-1 yesterday to move to sixth place, recently revealed: “I was talking to one of the best clubs in the Premier League over the summer about one of their players.
“The player I was watching ended up playing in the Champions League two weeks later, so I bet he’s glad he didn’t come with me!”
Sun Sport revealed earlier this week that Warnock is also looking to bring Everton winger Yannick Bolasie to the northeast once the window is reopened.
