Liverpool FC XI vs Lincoln City: confirmed team news, planned lineup and latest Carabao Cup injury list

Liverpool will be without Joe Gomez and Joel Matip once again when they face Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup, assistant manager Pep Lijnders confirmed.

Both players missed Sunday’s meeting with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge after suffering a blow and a hamstring injury respectively in training.

That meant Fabinho was forced to take the place of the makeshift center half, although he was among the Reds’ standout players as they managed a 2-0 victory.

It looks like Jurgen Klopp will be forced to get creative once again in that position on Thursday when his team visits Sincil Bank.

When asked for an update on the pair, Lijnders said: “Hopefully Joe will train with the team on Friday to prepare for the game against Arsenal.

“Joel will be out longer, he has a hamstring [injury] so it will take another two weeks, hopefully the international break will solve it so that he is ready for the game against Everton.

Liverpool lost Jordan Henderson at halftime of their weekend outing in the capital, the captain felt tightness in his thigh.

When asked if he could be available for Lincoln, Lijnders added: “Hendo is a bit difficult.

“We have to see, but surely not tomorrow and Arsenal (next Monday) will be tight, but let’s see day by day.”

With both Gomez and Matip out, 17-year-old defender Billy Koumetio could be in line to start after impressing in training with the first team in the preseason.

However, Lijnders has revealed that the teenager has a fitness problem of his own that could force him to lose himself.

He continued: “You now have a check. He didn’t train with the team for the last few days so hopefully he can do it today, it would be great, but it’s still insecure to be honest. “

Even considering his injury woes, Klopp was expected to announce changes for Thursday’s game in order to give a number of fringe players an outlet, probably debuting for the summer signing of Diogo Jota.

Liverpool predicted XI: Adrian, Williams, Van den Berg, Phillips, Tsimikas, Milner, Jones, Shaqiri, Jota, Minamino, Origi.
