What a difference two new faces can make.
Having worried about the lack of arrivals for much of the lengthened transfer window, Liverpool fans were left giddy by a double arrival.
First on Friday came the capture of Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich for a starting value of £ 20 million.
But if that had been a long time coming, few had expected Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Diogo Jota to follow just 24 hours later, particularly for an outlay that could end up costing the Reds £ 45 million.
With Kostas Tsmikas already on board, Liverpool have now spent over £ 80m on newcomers.
Some of that has been recovered with the sales of Dejan Lovren and, on Saturday, Ki-Jana Hoever. More are likely to follow.

But as Chelsea and Manchester City strengthened their squads, some Reds fans were beginning to grow impatient with one group of people in particular.

ECHO conducted a survey after news of Jota’s imminent arrival was confirmed Friday night. The choice was simple: FSG inside or FSG outside.
And with over 26,000 fans responding, the verdict was pretty unanimous.
A whopping 90.2% declared themselves happy that the club’s owners continue, with only 9.8% willing to see them go.
Fans were also invited to give their opinion.
Darren Mulholland said, “Why would anyone want FSG to come out? What they are doing is first class.”
Neil McElroy stated: “They have built steadily year after year. Sponsors are paying more, quality players are coming in, the whole club is moving forward. Compare now to when the Premier League started.”
Craig Anderson stated: “It’s not even debatable. Even before the transfers, why would anyone question the FSG? What they have done for our club over the last 5 years is incredible.
Ross Haslehurst added: “I really don’t understand why people were so discouraged this summer, the transfer window still has 3 weeks left, but people complained about the lack of activity after a week, clearly Edwards knew who he wanted. and how much I could get them because it only took some time. “
Matthew Higham said: “You may sometimes disagree with the way the owners do things, but to demand that they leave, after everything that has happened in their tenure? Idiots, everyone.”
Nathan Duffy opined: “If someone said before the window started, we would sign a left back, Thiago and a forward to add competition to the three forwards, I would not have believed you. FSG, Edwards and Klopp have done wonders for this club.”
And Malcom Govender concluded: “FSG out … still did not announce Mbappé, Varane and a young Messi”.
