Liverpool face their biggest challenge with Jürgen Klopp out of nowhere and the result is uncertain

Where we invest is potentially more important now than ever.

You could be talking about all sorts of things from savings to screen time here. But in general, we have to constantly decide where to invest energy. What matters and what doesn’t is ultimately a self-decided course presented by external factors.

Is it then strange that my feeling for full-time investment in the Merseyside derby was one of happiness and general relief? I had no semblance of interest in allowing the injustices of the game to become me, instead I focused on a single point: the post-Aston Villa reaction.

I don’t think anyone should take for granted the huge potential impact of that loss at Villa Park. might has had on this side of Liverpool. It was a loss of monstrous magnitude that, just kidding, is behind the team relentlessly underestimating its scale.

And then Goodison, the best and worst match after something like Villa and ironically the best and worst potential result. Liverpool showed a lot of character. They puffed out their champions’ chests and let the world of viewers know where their head is. In that sense, you couldn’t have asked for much more. For all that happened, another feeling that Liverpool flipped in this of all matches would have been damaging beyond any injury or VAR decision.

But then the worst element of the game comes from that very concept of being knocked down over and over again by terribly bad refereeing. And therefore he somehow aggravates Villa in a way like no other. You have had the humiliation and humiliation, now you have the feeling that you have been robbed. This is, in many ways, the greatest test of character for this team under Jürgen Klopp.

Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker will be very important in his absence in this regard. But this isn’t about the personal, it’s about the collective, the fucking minded monsters as Klopp calls them. He did his magic after Villa, now he needs to do it again in a completely different context after Everton. Ajax is great, bigger than you or I even understand it right now for this Liverpool team.

What I read on Liverpool.com

Our post-game content had everything you needed from the game, including our regular Ollie podium feature, as well as his post-game analysis of ongoing VAR flaws. They are both excellent and worth reading.

What i’m hearing

There are plenty of post-match shots that you can get caught up in. I enjoyed the Blood Red version, excellently presented as always by Guy Clarke. You can listen again here.
