UNOFFICIAL – BN Exceeds BN-PAS Combined Vote in 2018

7.35 pm – (UNOFFICIAL) BN has captured an even higher vote share this time than the combined votes PAS and Umno achieved in 2018.

According to the unofficial tally, BN secured 84.37 percent of the vote share this time around, while the combined vote share of PAS and Umno in 2018 was 66.9 percent.


NOT OFFICIAL – BN wins Slim’s by-elections

19.20 h – According to the unofficial count, BN’s Mohd Zaidi Aziz (down) has garnered 9,980 votes and thus gains an insurmountable advantage based on an estimated 73 percent turnout.

Based on the votes counted so far, BN has already exceeded the number of votes it received during the 2018 elections.

Pejuang’s candidate, Amir Khusyairi, is believed to have garnered about 13.5 percent of the vote. If your voting percentage falls below 12.5 percent, you will lose your deposit.


BN on the road to a landslide victory

BN improves in early voting category, gets 95 percent

19.00 h – (UNOFFICIAL) Based on the unofficial tally of the first votes, BN has achieved a significant improvement by obtaining 95 percent of the total votes cast, up from 80 percent in 2018.

Pejuang’s vote share for this category (4.37 percent) was almost similar to Harapan’s in 2018.

This would suggest that some PAS supporters among early voters had voted for the BN candidate.


EC: Incorrect to prevent voters from wearing shorts

18.50 h – This afternoon, the president of the Electoral Commission (EC), Abdul Ghani Salleh (down) said that several voters in shorts were wrongly prevented from entering a polling station in Sekolah Kebangsaan Aminnudin Baki.

“Those who cannot enter the polling stations are those who wear clothing with the party logo or wear revealing clothing.

“However, for me, the shorts are still fine. They are allowed to enter the polling station in shorts, ”he told a press conference at the SK Aminnudin Baki polling station.


BN man steps forward, wins 1,000 votes

Polls close, the count begins

17:00 h – Voting for the N58 Slim state seat in Perak has been closed and the count will begin shortly.

BN candidate Mohd Zaidi Aziz, who is the acting head of Tanjung Malim Umno, is defending the party’s stronghold against independent candidates Amir Khusyairi Mohamad Tanusi and S Santharasekaran.

Amir, a lawyer by profession, is officially independent, but represents the new party of the former prime minister, Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, Pejuang, which is making its electoral debut.

The by-elections follow the death of incumbent Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib on July 15 due to heart failure.

Khusairi had held the seat for four terms since he was first elected in 2004, while his predecessor, the late Junus Wahid, held the Umno seat from 1986 to 2004.

During the 14 general electionKhusairi won by 8,327 votes, defeating Mohd Amran Ibrahim of Bersatu and Muhammad Zulfadli Zainal of PAS, who obtained 6,144 and 4,103 votes respectively.

There are 22,749 voters in this semi-rural constituency of which 75 percent of the voters are Malays, followed by Indians (13 percent), Chinese (10 percent) and others (two percent).


Sparse data on by-elections

This is the twelfth by-election since the 2018 general election and the first to be held in Perak. It is the second by-election called since the fall of the Pakatan Harapan government and its replacement in March by the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration led by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

Chini’s by-election in Pahang was won by Umno / BN candidate Mohd Sharim Md Zain against independent candidates, as Harapan chose not to contest the seat.

To date, Harapan has won five by-elections (Sungai Kandis, Seri Setia, Balakong, Port Dickson, Sandakan) while BN has won six (Cameron Highlands, Semenyih, Rantau, Tanjung Piai, Kimanis, Chini).
