KUALA LUMPUR: Former Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng will face two new charges of dishonest misappropriation of property in Butterworth Sessions Court on Friday.

The matter was raised by Deputy Prosecutor Wan Shaharudin Wan Ladin during the mention of Lim’s corruption case for allegedly using his position as Penang’s then-Chief Minister to request a bonus to help a company secure the Penang Underwater Tunnel project. of 6.3 billion ringgit.

“The prosecution has delivered the notice to the defendant this morning, to inform him about the two charges under Section 403 of the Penal Code,” he told Session Court Judge Azura Alwi.

Wan Shaharuddin said the charges to be brought against Lim on Friday would be the last in relation to the underwater tunnel project.

Section 403 of the Penal Code establishes that whoever improperly appropriates, or converts for his own use, or causes another person to dispose of any property, will be punished with imprisonment for a period of not less than six months or more. . of five years and with lashes and will also be sanctioned with a fine, if he pleads guilty.

Attorney Gobind Singh Deo, representing Lim, 60, confirmed that his client had received the notice, but said he had not seen the two new charges.

On August 7, Lim was indicted in the Court of Sessions here for applying for a bonus to help a company secure the Penang Underwater Tunnel project and on August 10 for using his post as Chief Minister of Penang at the time for a bonus for an amount of RM3.3 million as an incentive. for helping a company owned by Datuk Zarul Ahmad Mohd Zulkifli to secure the RM6.3 billion project.

Zarul is a director of Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd.

On August 11, Lim was charged again.
