Hong Kong superstar Aaron Kwok follows in the footsteps of “Cantopop Father” Sam Hui by hosting a free online concert on Saturday (May 9).
Kwok, 54, announced on social media on May 2 that the concert, which will begin at 5 p.m., will air live on Facebook and YouTube.
Like Hui, Kwok will also hold the concert at the Harbor City Mall in Tsim Sha Tsui, and will raise funds for dancers who have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
Hui, 71, had donated HK $ 250,000 (S $ 45,500) to help the staff of a music events company, which has worked with him for many years. He had emphasized that his concert was not to raise funds.
The veteran’s online concert is considered a huge success as it drew more than 2.5 million viewers.
Kwok, who started his entertainment career as a backup dancer, will donate a sum of money to help the dancers. Its profits have been depleted as concerts and other entertainment events in the territory have been canceled or postponed due to the pandemic.
In addition to singing, she will also perform alongside 100 dancers on Saturday.
Concert production director Patrick Siu, who is also Hui’s concert production director, said Kwok manager Leung May May approached him on April 30 and would reveal more details of the concert in the coming days. .
Siu said Kwok also hoped to boost morale for Hong Kong people affected by the pandemic.
