KULAI : A four-seater light aircraft made a forced landing at KM47.7 of the North-South Highway (NSE) after developing engine problems today.
Two pilots, both Singaporeans, were reported to have taken off on the plane at approximately 10.50 a.m. M. From Seletar Airport, Singapore at approximately 10.50am. M. And they were heading to the Malacca airport when the incident occurred just 15 minutes into the flight.
The privately owned aircraft was flying at about 5,000 feet when its engine suffered a power loss.
After the pilots took various measures to regain the failed normal flight, they decided to land the single-engine plane on the road.
The pilots, identified as Yang Kuang Ying, 52, and Saleehullah Abdul Majid, 41, managed to safely land the aircraft amid moving traffic on the NSE.
Both men were unharmed and the aircraft was not damaged in the incident.
Police officers who were alerted came to the scene before the traffic police were put into service to ensure that traffic was smooth.
The U.S.-registered plane owned by Yang and parked on the shoulder of the road caught the attention of amused drivers passing by, many of whom took photos and videos before sharing it on social media.
* Subsequently, the aircraft was pushed into an open space on the road where it is expected to undergo inspection by aircraft maintenance personnel for defects.
It is not yet known whether the aircraft will leave the site after its certified airworthiness.
