“Clearly, Azmin is not familiar with the Malaysian Constitution. It should heed the statement by the chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Federal / State Relations, Hassan Abdul Karim, who noted that federal and state governments have joint power over health matters under the Ninth Annex to the Federal Constitution. “
Public health and disease prevention issues appear on the concurrent list, which means that federal and state governments have joint jurisdiction over these issues, Lim said.
“Neither Azmin nor the federal government can rely solely on citing the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act of 1988 (Law 342) to impose their will on state governments to follow the federal government’s decision to reopen the economy on May 4 “, said.
Six states, Kedah, Sabah, Pahang, Penang, Kelantan and Sarawak have decided not to follow the federal government’s move, while three states, Selangor, Perak and Negri Sembilan, said they would limit the number of companies that can resume operations.
