PETALING JAYA: Pulai Umno became the first division in the country to pass a resolution calling on party leaders to resign from the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government immediately to force a general election.
Its director, Nur Jazlan Mohamed, who confirmed this to the FMT, said that delegates at Friday’s annual general meeting had unanimously decided that it would be best for Umno and his reputation to leave the ruling coalition before the party is also blamed. the failure of the PN to govern adequately.
In a strongly worded resolution that was seen by the FMT, the division described the coalition’s top leaders as unreliable and having no qualms about ditching their allies for power.
“These senior PN leaders were the same ones who worked with Pakatan Harapan (PH) to overthrow the Barisan Nasional led by Umno in the 14th General Election (GE14).
“After that, it was this same group of leaders who turned traitors and played with their friends in PH to cause his downfall, resulting in 22 months of torture for Malaysians.
“Now, after 10 months of being in leadership as we ride on our backs, we see his insincerity. We can see his collusion, moving silently and openly attacking Umno, from all angles, demonstrating his dishonesty and not that of a loyal partner, “he said.
The resolution added that PN’s incompetence had worried Umno about the way the country was being run, as well as the lack of attention to the problems facing the rakyat.
“We fear that Umno will become the black sheep because of his failures. Therefore, the time has come to part ways and continue our political battle in the spirit of Barisan Nasional (BN).
“With this, we also resolve that Umno / Barisan Nasional challenge the traditional seat of parliament of the state constituency of Pulai and Kempas in the next (general) elections,” he declared.
Nur Jazlan, who is also the deputy head of Johor Umno, said PN needed them more for the support of all Malaysians, but added that Umno would lose non-Malaysian votes in the process.
“So it is better for us to consider other options like PKR or DAP to secure non-Malaysian votes,” he said.
Asked about the fate of Umno’s pact with PAS in Muafakat Nasional (MN) if he leaves, Nur Jazlan said the association would surely collapse.
“In any case, the PN is made up of PAS, Bersatu and two insignificant parties from Sabah. He is very unbalanced and cannot get support from other Malays in Sarawak either.
“If Umno stays with PN, we would be lending them votes but we would lose non-Malaysian votes because they have rejected PAS and PPBM (of Prime Minister) Muhyiddin Yassin,” he said.
Nur Jazlan said that the PN government was proving incapable of handling many more problems now and even handling the Covid-19 pandemic.
He added that the public considered the PAS ministers and the Kedah Menteri Menteri Kissing incompetent.
“Muhyiddin unilaterally decided on the Emergency movement, without even arguing and obtaining permission from the largest party, Umno.
“This resulted in BN being blamed for the failure as well,” Nur Jazlan said, referring to a proposal by the prime minister in October that was rejected by Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
“This is why we need a general election soon to re-establish Parliament. We cannot afford to lose non-Malaysian votes or even Malaysian votes. The longer the PN government is in power, the longer it will be contaminated by its association with them. “
