KOTA KINABALU: Former Sabah Prime Minister Shafie Apdal says the opposition will fail in the next general election if the same old leadership remains in command.
He said a change in leadership was needed across the board, adding that the crop of leaders was disunited and lacking direction.
“We were able to win the last elections and then we lost power. Why? (Due to) infighting.
“We tried to bring people together, but we did not go anywhere because there is no clear direction from the leaders,” he said after the party’s annual general meeting here today.
“That is why unity is very important, not only to unite the leaders but also Malaysians in general. This is the most crucial part.
“I don’t want to highlight anyone, but the time has come for changes in the leadership of the opposition, something that many of the component parties have also expressed previously.
