KUALA LANGAT (Bernama): The Selangor government has decided to give unlicensed factories and landlords one last chance to legalize their operations before the end of the year, says Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari on Wednesday (September 9).

He said that the state government would not hesitate to demolish building structures that have an impact on environmental pollution if they (illegal landowners and factories) do not do so within the stipulated period.

“We have been offering them to go through the legalization process since 2008.

“The decision of the last State Executive Council in 2018 was to extend the action until 2020. After 2020, we will tear down.

“But if the situation is urgent, and I think we can implement it faster by November or December or even early next year, we will implement a comprehensive legalization process,” he added.

Amirudin said at a press conference following the Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL) statement as consented to by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

In the meantime, he said he will chair the Selangor State Water Resources Pollution Emergency Committee as an effort by the state government to reduce the impact of pollution on water resources in Selangor.

“I will lead the committee soon, and this time, we will combine river monitoring technology online with the Selangor Water Management Board (LUAS) as a water resources monitoring agency.

“We will also implement efforts to clean up river areas, dislodge river reserves developed with illegal buildings and infrastructure,” he said.

Amirudin said that the state government will also support the motion of thanks for Sultan Sharafuddin’s royal speech on Tuesday calling for firm action on the issue.

Previously, he said that the Kuala Langat District Council had officially upgraded to MPKL as of Wednesday after receiving the consent of the Sultan of Selangor and a new municipal logo.

He added that the Subang Jaya Municipal Council will also update to Subang Jaya Municipal Council next month. – Bernama
