Frank Lampard admitted that Chelsea got tired of their clash with Tottenham in the Carabao Cup.
Chelsea were on their way to victory after Timo Werner scored his first goal for the club, but Erik Lamela scored to take the game to penalties.
Mason Mount was the only player to be lost when Chelsea fell 5-4 on penalties..
Lampard, however, said there was “a lot to like” about his performance, before explaining why Werner did not take a penalty.
He said Sky sports: “Anything can happen on penalties, you want to stay in these competitions, of course, but there are many things that I like.
“We dominated the first half but the game changed, I’m happy with the bits.
“They were long in the second half, they lost our press, a clear change in their tactics and we have to improve that. We can react better.
“If we get the second goal when we are up and we are more positive, that will come.
“We looked tired at the end, which was understandable given where we are. Timo Werner had some cramps at the end, so he didn’t commit a penalty. “
Lampard is silent on Rudiger’s speculation
Defender Antonio Rudiger was once again out of the call, while ties with a departure from the club continue.
The German international has linked up with players like PSG and even Tottenham opponents, having fallen through the pecking order.
However, Lampard denied his decision because Rudiger would be leaving the club before the transfer deadline.
“No. It’s not at that time,” he replied simply.
