Frank Lampard said he was “angry” after Chelsea fell in a 3-1 loss to Arsenal, and urged his players to “take responsibility.”

Chelsea they have now lost three straight away games in the Premier League. It’s their worst away form streak in nearly two years, since losing four straight away games between January and February 2019.

Extending his struggles on his travels to the losing to their rivals made it a bitter night for Chelsea, who entered the game as a favorite.

The Blues would have come in second with a win, but instead stay out of the top four.

Lampard admits that the performance was not of the required quality. And while he takes some responsibility himself, he also told his players that they must accept their share of the blame for not performing at the highest level.

“It wasn’t good enough,” he said. Sky sports. “We fought in the second half but in the first half we gave ourselves too much to do.

“The players that arrived added speed, energy and intensity.

“I will take responsibility from the outside but the players also have to take responsibility.

“The message was clear: Arsenal are a dangerous team. When you go out and play 60 or 70 percent, you are not going to win any games.

“I am angry because I want us to win games. It was an opportunity to finish second. You have what you deserve. “

Chelsea is still a work in progress

There are high expectations at Stamford Bridge this season after Chelsea strongly supported Lampard in the transfer market in the summer.

The changes they made to their team seemed to have the desired effect earlier in the season. They had a 17-game unbeaten streak (with the exception of a penalty shootout loss to Tottenham in the EFL Cup) until two weeks ago.

Since then, they have lost three games of their last four, raising questions about their title credentials.

Lampard believes their form shows that they still have a long way to go to catch up with players like Liverpool and Manchester City.

“Teams that win, win, win relentlessly didn’t win two or three years ago,” he said. BBC Sport. “We have not arrived yet, that is clear.

“I felt it when we are on our long undefeated streak and I feel it now. Today we have been very wrong.

“In the second part we showed some urgency but it was too late. The first half we gave ourselves too much to do, we were very poor.

“We cannot lack energy and enthusiasm in the Premier League and we did it.

“You can prepare as well as you want, but if you present yourself like that, that’s something else. It is in the mind.

“If you perform below average, things go against you, like Saka’s goal. This is life. Another day we could have scored the penalty and come back, but it is not a day for us ”.
