LABUAN: A 70-year-old woman who had been stranded for more than 30 years in Sarawak finally returned home and was reunited with her family here today, thanks to a mercy operation.

The woman identified as Salmah Adeh (pix), left Labuan 32 years ago in search of a better income in Sarawak. However, due to some unfortunate circumstances, he ended up homeless in Sibu.

Her family members in Labuan had done their best to locate her, but to no avail.

Salmah’s life was turned upside down when she lost her Malaysian identity card and cash in a robbery incident in Sibu.

During her stay in Sibu, she found a job with a vendor in Sibu’s central market and had a place to take refuge, but eventually her employer, whom she called ‘hajah,’ passed away and she was left homeless.

Then he started helping other vegetable sellers at the dry market make ends meet and slept on the trail for over 20 years.

On January 8 of this year, Salmah was taken to Sibu Hospital for treatment after a Good Samaritan found her weakened.

The Sibu-based correspondent for Bernama then highlighted the woman’s plight in February and subsequently found her nephew Zamain Ma’in in Labuan. However, efforts to bring her back stalled due to the inter-state travel ban.

However, the non-governmental organization Persatuan Amal Kebajikan Insan Sarawak (PAKIS) and the social welfare departments of Sibu and Lawas began efforts to send her back home to reunite with her family and her only daughter, Noredah Saman, who is now 47. years. .
