Labuan placed under CMCO

PETALING JAYA: Labuan Federal Territory will be subject to a conditional movement control order (CMCO) from tomorrow until October 30, Chief Minister (Defense) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced yesterday.

He said this was necessary due to the increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in recent days. “We need to take steps to slow the spread of the infection.”

This makes Labuan the third federal territory under a CMCO. On Wednesday, Selangor and the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya were subjected to similar restrictions.

Ismail Sabri said that anyone wishing to travel within Kuala Lumpur or Putrajaya is not required to obtain a police permit.

“Kuala Lumpur considers itself a district, as is Putrajaya,” he said, adding that those who wish to travel to other districts will need to obtain permits.

The application forms can be downloaded from the police Facebook page. Completed forms must be signed by the officer in charge at the nearest police station.

Ismail Sabri said that to stop the spread of the virus, especially in red zones, employees should be able to work from home if their workplaces are in a different district.

He said standard operating procedures for the motion control order will be maintained. “People who live in CMCO areas should not worry about buying goods and should not resort to panic buying.”

Ismail Sabri said that commercial facilities are operating normally and supermarkets and wet markets are still open every day.

A total of 390 people were arrested yesterday for ignoring the order to control the recovery movement, of which 386 received compound fines and the remaining four were arrested.

Ismail Sabri said 23 illegal immigrants and three suspected traffickers were also detained under Ops Benteng.

“A task force seized five boats and five vehicles during the operation to prevent illegal entry into the country.”

He added that 20 sanitation operations were carried out in eight states and Putrajaya.
