KUALA LUMPUR: Sungai Seluang, a sub-district in Kulim, Kedah, will be placed under an enhanced motion control order (EMCO) starting Friday.
At a press conference, Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the shutdown will last two weeks and affect some 6,000 residents.
Ismail also said that the government will implement an EMCO in the Taman Telipok Ria area in Tuaran, Sabah, starting Friday.
Both EMCOs will end on December 10.
The closure at Taman Telipok Ria will affect some 18,000 residents.
It said the Health Ministry had conducted 2,609 tests in the Taman Telipok Ria area as of November 22, with 253 tests coming back positive and 581 samples still awaiting results.
Meanwhile, 197 tests have been conducted in the Sungai Seluang sub-district in Kulim, and 50 of them were positive.
The areas to be blocked are Taman Bayam, Taman Bayam Indah, Taman Kangkong 1 and 2, Taman Halia, Taman Cekur Manis, Taman Kobis, Taman Sawi and Taman Seri Limau.
He said Sabah residents would be subject to EMCO’s usual SOPs, except that various stores would be allowed to open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the purchase of essential items.
Meanwhile, the EMCO at three locations in Kudat, Sabah, will end today as scheduled. The three locations are Kampung Pengaraban, Kampung Tanjung Kapor, and Kampung Landung Ayang.
Noting the arrests of people who disobey standard operating procedures under movement restrictions, Ismail said police detained 312 people yesterday, all of whom were handed compounds.
Most of the infractions were for not preparing equipment or recording customer data when visiting stores (99), not wearing masks (89), and disobeying physical distance rules (50).
Ismail also announced that all MAB Kargo employees at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) will be quarantined at the Tune Hotel KLIA Aeropolis from tomorrow until December 9.
He said this was due to the Covid-19 cases of the Kaya cluster located in Negeri Sembilan and Putrajaya involving MAB Kargo employees.
The isolation program will affect all 360 MAB Kargo employees at KLIA who are healthy, have no symptoms and have been confirmed negatives.
