KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) will increase the number of staff hired in the Department of Social Welfare (JKM) by 8,000 next year.
Minister Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun (pix) said the move was in line with JKM’s restructuring to ease the burden on existing staff and ensure quality service to people.
“To start with, there will be additional contracted personnel from JKM.
“At the same time, this will provide employment opportunities for those who need to secure income to meet the challenges amid the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said after delivering donations to 30 flood victims in Kampung Datuk Keramat here today.
It was previously reported that the restructuring of JKM would affect the staff, management and administrative structure.
Introducing the 2021 budget, Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz announced the provision of 50,000 contract employment opportunities in the public sector, of which 8,000 would be allocated to KPWKM.
Rina’s elaboration said that in addition to increasing the number of staff hired, the ministry plans to bring in additional child protectors and moral officers from JKM
“This restructuring exercise is to ensure that each officer can carry out their specific tasks and is not burdened,” he said.
Additionally, Rina hopes that community members will volunteer for the National Welfare Foundation (YKN), which is open to everyone, regardless of background.
“The #kitajagakita concept does not apply only to compliance with Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs), but also to caring for the well-being of the community,” he said.
