KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) will be the lead agency to investigate the issue of the meat cartel, said Police Inspector General Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador.
He said the Royal Malaysian Police will assist KPDNHEP in any way possible to carry out its investigations.
“The police will investigate (and) open investigation documents from the angle of what actions (were committed).
“(This is because) such actions have caused fear, concern and concern among Malaysians and we will open investigative documents under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code (for causing fear and alarm to the public),” he told Bernama after receiving the Bintang Bhayangkara Utama Award in Bukit Aman here today.
Bernama reported yesterday that the director of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department, Datuk Huzir Mohamed, said that the police believed that the illegal activities linked to the meat cartel involved a wide network and national and foreign unions.
In addition, the investigation included those who participated in the acquisition, storage, processing, smuggling and also associates who manipulated, conspired and brought the frozen meat through Approved Permits (AP).
To date, the Police have received 13 complaints from citizens across the country on the subject.
The media previously reported on the activities of a cartel involved in smuggling frozen meat from various countries before repackaging the meat with the halal logo at a warehouse in Senai, Johor. -Called
