Kossan confirms temporary closure of a plant in Klang due to Covid-19

KUALA LUMPUR: Kossan Rubber Industries Bhd temporarily suspended operations at one of its plants in Klang after 427 employees became infected with Covid-19.

“The facility at the affected plant is temporarily closed to carry out disinfection and sanitation procedures and is expected to resume operations in stages starting on December 21, 2020,” the glove manufacturer said in a document presented today to Bursa Malaysia.

With the temporary closure of the affected plant, the loss of capacity is estimated at less than 1% of the total annual production volume.

“Other production facilities at different locations are operating normally,” he said.

Kossan became the latest large-scale glove producer to stop operations after its workers were infected by the virus that had wreaked havoc on Top Glove Corp Bhd’s production. and Hartalega Holdings Bhd.

Kossan said the cases were caught after the company began testing all of its employees on December 4.

“The screening exercise covers all the plant facilities and corporate offices in Klang and is expected to be completed by December 17,” he said.

To date, Kossan has closed screening to 7,000 employees and only one of its plant has recorded a total of 427 COVID-19 cases detected.

“All affected employees are receiving medical treatment at the government medical facilities and all employees at the affected plant facilities are being quarantined and isolated and will undergo further examinations,” he said.
