ALOR SETAR: Kedah Medical Center (KMC) is working closely with state health authorities to ensure proper management of virus containment in the hospital.

KMC Medical Director Datuk Dr. Kamaruzaman Ali said they have completed the examination of all staff and that samples of the tests are being evaluated.

It said that at 12 noon today, a total of 19 KMC staff members and 19 of their family members have been identified as positive for Covid-19.

“The first evaluation of the 21 KMC consultants returned negative results, however, as a precautionary measure, KMC will repeat the test tomorrow,” it said in a statement today.

He added that all areas visited by staff and patients have already been rapidly disinfected in accordance with the strict infection control guidelines of the Ministry of Health (MINSA).

On Tuesday, 18 KMC staff members and seven of their family members were reported to have tested positive for Covid-19. They are known as the Sungai cluster.

The hospital quickly closed its inpatient and outpatient services for three days starting Tuesday for a complete sanitation and terminal process.

However, Dr. Kamaruzaman said that despite the current situation, KMC’s commitment to patients, staff and medical consultants was not compromised.

The hospital has also established a support group called ‘KMC Covid Carelines’ to provide support and advice to its staff, especially those in quarantine.

“Additionally, the hospital’s audit execution team will strengthen staff compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“To ensure that our lines of communication remain open and interactive during this experience, we hold virtual briefings to keep all staff and patients up-to-date on the latest developments,” he said.Named
