Jurgen Klopp has been named Best Male Coach for the second year in a row at FIFA’s The Best awards ceremony.

The German led Liverpool to a long-awaited first league title in 30 years, and convincingly.

Klopp was one of three nominees for the award, along with Bayern Munich’s Hansi Flick and Leeds’ Marcelo Bielsa.

However, Liverpool’s dominance was overwhelming, even if Klopp seemed surprised to have won the award again.

He said “I am [shocked]. I was sitting here because I thought I had won it last year. I am here with my players. Thank you very much, wow.

“I have many people to thank and especially my coaches. If I had known we had won it, my coaches would be here with me. What we did last year has to do with these guys.

“We do not dream 30 years but we have already dreamed for some years. It was absolutely exceptional and we all had a special year in an unfortunately not so positive way, but for Liverpool fans at least we were able to make some highlights in a difficult period.

“I had no idea how it would feel and it felt absolutely overwhelming.”

Son wins the Puskas award

Meanwhile, Tottenham Forward Son Heung-min won the Puskas Award for his phenomenal solo hit against Burnley in December 2019.

The South Korean dribbled almost the entire length of the field before finishing, and has been voted the best goal of the year.

Son was excited to have won the award and said, “Great, great! It was so nice, when I received the ball, I tried to pass, I received it in my own box, I couldn’t find any options and I started dribbling, and after two seconds I was in front of the goal, it was a surprise, such a beautiful goal.

“They (my teammates) should give me more options… I’m kidding! I had a great career, a great goal, so I am also grateful to my teammates.

“After scoring, I didn’t realize it was so amazing; after the game, I saw him again and thought ‘wow, this is something special’.

“During the game you concentrate, then I was so surprised to be so far away, so many people around me. It was an incredible feeling. “
