KL traffic police are being investigated for sexual harassment allegations

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The alleged sexual harassment of a woman by police personnel is investigated during a checkpoint in Jalan Duta, here.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Comm Datuk Saiful Azly Kamaruddin (Photo) said the department had opened an investigative document based on the woman’s claim that had gone viral on social media on Saturday (February 13).

“The investigation is ongoing involving a member of the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Control and Investigation Department (JSPT),” he said when contacted.

The woman claimed on Twitter that she was stopped at a roadblock along Jalan Duta and sexually harassed by police personnel on duty.

Earlier, the director of Bukit Aman’s Department of Integrity and Compliance (JIPS), Comm Datuk Zamri Yahya, confirmed that the police had received a report on the matter.

“Yes, JIPS has received the report and it is being investigated,” he said.

Meanwhile, Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Omar said the incident occurred when the complainant, a 23-year-old woman, was detained by a police officer while passing through the barricade around 7:30 p.m. on Friday (February 12), earlier being asked to present his driver’s license.

“The complainant claimed that she was approached by a police officer who asked her to show her breasts and threatened to issue a subpoena if the complainant refused.

“The police officer also asked the complainant to provide her phone number before she was allowed to leave once her identity card was verified,” he said in a statement Saturday.

Meanwhile, ACP Anuar advised the public not to make speculations that could interfere with the police investigation.
