KL police reject requests for New Years reunion

KUALA LUMPUR: The police have rejected three requests for meetings and celebrations to mark the beginning of the new year in the city, says Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador.

The Inspector General of Police said that the Kuala Lumpur Police Chief informed him of the decision.

“The applications were rejected because they would not be in accordance with the Covid-19 standard operating procedures established by the Ministry of Health.

“If the applications are approved, we believe that they will lead to large crowds of people and the areas would be overcrowded,” he said when contacted on Thursday (December 31).

Gathering people, especially in areas located under the conditional movement control order (MCO), is wrong, the IGP emphasized.

“The police force will be patrolling tonight to ensure that no gatherings are held anywhere to celebrate New Year’s Day.

“If there are still those who are stubborn enough to attend or organize such meetings, we will take severe measures, including issuing compounds for those who did not adhere to SOPs,” Abdul Hamid said.
