KUALA LUMPUR: Police detained 13 Vietnamese women working as Guest Relations Officers (GRO) and six other foreigners, while 29 local customers were handed compounds after a raid on an entertainment establishment in the city.

Brickfields Police Task Force personnel raided the store in Kuchai Entrepreneurs Park around 2:45 a.m. Saturday (September 12) following a tip.

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Zailrulnizam Mohd Zainuddin @ Hilmi said police also detained a 44-year-old local woman who is believed to be the manager of the outlet.

“The detained foreigners were a Bangladeshi man, five Vietnamese men and 13 Vietnamese women working as GRO. Further investigation revealed that the establishment was operating without a proper business license,” he said.

When contacted on Sunday (September 13), he added that compounds were also issued to 29 local customers for violating the recovery motion control (MCO) order.

“The detained foreigners are between 18 and 41 years old and have been in preventive detention until September 25,” he said.

ACP Zairulnizam said that bar or pub owners should not employ foreigners without proper permits.

“Strict action will also be taken against property owners operating without valid licenses. We also expect the public to adhere to standard operating procedures during the MCO’s recovery period,” he said.
