PETALING JAYA: An online movement under the hashtag “KitaMintaLima” (We Ask for Five) is currently trending on Twitter, imploring the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to grant five requests in the interest of the people during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The movement is accompanied by a poster detailing the requests to be fulfilled or the change of government. At the time of writing, more than 48,000 tweets with the hashtag had been posted.

FMT understands that the five measures are a compilation of netizens’ comments taken from an Istana Negara Facebook post, which showed the King granting Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin an audience for a pre-cabinet meeting on February 3.

Among the demands listed are a targeted and effective motion control order (MCO), full support for leaders in channeling all resources to fight Covid-19, and an automatic moratorium on bank loans and cash aid for people in the entire MCO.

Others included the fair and equitable application of the National Security Council standard operating procedures (SOPs), as well as the immediate distribution of Internet data devices to all students.

At the end of the applications, the poster read: “Or change the government.”

The current MCO has been extended until February 18, as Malaysia continues to record a high number of daily infections, with 234,874 accumulated positive cases as of yesterday.

Putrajaya most recently received widespread criticism for his SOPs for the Chinese New Year celebrations next week, with politicians and others claiming he was culturally deaf and calling for the rules to be rectified.
