PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin was criticized tonight for being “in such a weak political position” that he did not dare to call for the resignation of a minister who disobeyed mandatory quarantine.
DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang said Muhyiddin’s advice to the people, being responsible and disciplined in adhering to Covid-19 protocols, was “hypocritical advice” in light of the actions of the plantation industries. and Raw Materials Minister Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali.
Muhyiddin’s advice came when he announced an extension until December 31 of the order to control the recovery movement.
In a later statement, Lim criticized Muhyiddin for not demanding Khairuddin’s resignation, saying Malaysians had been disappointed that Muhyiddin’s advice to follow regulations “did not extend to his ministers.”
Khairuddin was publicly criticized, with some demanding his resignation for failing to undergo a 14-day home quarantine after returning from a trip to Turkey in July. Subsequently, the Ministry of Health imposed a fine of 1,000 ringgit and the police opened an investigation document after 27 reports were filed against the minister.
Earlier today, a defiant Khairuddin said it was not necessary for him to resign for failing to comply with quarantine regulations, and said his offense was not an act of misconduct.
Lim also criticized Muhyiddin for providing figures from a week ago on the global number of Covid-19 cases and related deaths.
