PETALING JAYA: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah is scheduled to return to Istana Negara shortly after receiving treatment for food poisoning and a sports injury.

Istana Negara, Comptroller of the Royal House, Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, said that the king suffered food poisoning on the night of September 21 and was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN).

He then underwent interventional treatment after an MRI scan the next day showed that he had sustained injuries while playing sports.

“As is well known, His Majesty is very active in various sports such as polo, soccer, squash, hockey and golf.

“The interventional treatment performed on Her Majesty’s knees and ankles was successful on 24 September.

“His Majesty’s condition is now stable and not of concern.

“After the interventional treatment, Her Majesty was recommended to undergo follow-up treatment under the observation of specialists from the IJN.

“Al-Sultan Abdullah is scheduled to return to Istana Negara shortly after completing this follow-up treatment,” Ahmad Fadil said in a statement on Monday (September 28).

He said that the King was touched by the rakyat’s concern for his health and well-being, and that His Majesty expressed his appreciation and thanked all who had prayed for him.

The King also expressed concern about the growing number of Covid-19 cases and advised the rakyat to always be careful and adhere to the new normal, Ahmad Fadil said.

“Al-Sultan Abdullah expressed concern about the increasing number of Covid-19 cases lately.

“His Majesty is also concerned about the increase in positive Covid-19 cases on the peninsula due to the returnees from Sabah from September 20 to 27, in which 36 cases were recorded,” said Ahmad Fadil.

He added that the rakyat is urged to pray for the King’s recovery and also for His Majesty to be blessed with lasting good health.
