PETALING JAYA: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah held a hearing with Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz on the 2021 Budget to be presented on Friday (November 6) .

In a statement on Wednesday (November 4), the Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said that during the meeting of more than one hour, the King was grateful to all those who put aside their political differences during the preparations for the Budget 2021.

“During the hearing, which lasted 70 minutes at 3 pm in Istana Negara, Sultan Abdullah was briefed on the economic and fiscal situation of the country.

Also present was the Secretary General of the Treasury, Datuk Asri Hamidon.

Sultan Abdullah was also informed of the efforts of the Ministry of Finance in preparing the budget since July, through 40 participation sessions in which more than 2,000 people and representatives of companies and political parties participated, which were held recently.

“The King expressed his gratitude to the government and political parties for their bipartisan spirit and their cooperation,” Fadil said.

He also said that the King hoped the government would study the proposals that were presented (during the participation sessions) to form an inclusive and comprehensive 2021 Budget.

“The King expected the 2021 Budget to focus on people, the recovery of the economy and the effective containment of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Sultan Abdullah believes that political maturity in setting aside political and personal differences and interests for the safety and well-being of the people and the country is of the utmost importance,” said Fadil.

He said that spirit was in line with the Islam-driven compromise process, as practiced by the Malaysian rulers at the special meeting in Istana Negara on October 25.

(On October 25, the Malaysian rulers met with the King before the Palace announced that it was not necessary to proclaim a state of emergency and that all political parties should close ranks and support the 2021 Budget for the good of the people. )

Fadil further stated that the welfare of the people should be the top priority.

“Sultan Abdullah hopes that this spirit of cooperation will continue for the good of the people,” he said in the statement.

The 2021 budget will be presented by the Perikatan Nasional government on November 6 in Parliament and will be debated before all the deputies vote on it.
