PETALING JAYA: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah said goodbye to the Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia, Bai Tian, whose term will end on November 27 after three years of service.
The Comptroller of the Royal House of Istana Negara Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said that the King also expressed his gratitude to the ambassador, particularly for strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation.
“Sultan Abdullah expresses his deepest appreciation to Bai Tian and Chinese President Xi Jinping for the continued assistance and contribution that the Chinese government has provided to Malaysia since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic earlier this year.
“The King also welcomes the commitment made by the Chinese government to include Malaysia as the main recipient country for the Covid-19 vaccine that they are developing,” he added.
His Majesty said that he hoped that the supply of the Covid-19 vaccine to Malaysia could be accelerated and also be a catalyst for the expansion of scientific cooperation and collaboration between the two countries.
His Majesty noted that Malaysia and China still registered positive growth in terms of trade volume even though world trade was affected by the pandemic.
“This reflects the sustainability and resilience of the Malaysian and Chinese economies, which complement each other.
“Sultan Abdullah hopes that Malaysia-China intimacy, bilateral cooperation and diplomatic relations can be further strengthened for the common interest and economic well-being,” he added.
China was one of the first countries to provide donations and assistance to Malaysia, supplying two million face masks, 120,000 personal protective clothing (PPE) and 200 ventilators, as well as eight medical consultants at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
