PETALING JAYA: Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong have urged Malaysians to keep Covid-19 standard operating procedure in mind as they celebrate Christmas.

Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Tunku Hajah Azizah Maimunah Iskandariah also want Malaysians to be thankful for the health and presence of their loved ones during the holiday season.

The Comptroller of the Royal House of Istana Negara, Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, said in a statement that the King and Queen extended their Christmas and New Year wishes to all Malaysians.

They said Malaysians need not worry about not being able to celebrate Christmas in the same way as in previous years.

“Even though the festival is celebrated with rules, the King and Queen declared that people should be happy that they are still healthy and can be with their loved ones.

“The Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong advised Malaysians to always be careful and disciplined when practicing SOP while celebrating the festival.

“His Majesty further urged all Malaysians, regardless of their origin, to pray that Malaysia will be blessed and protected from harm and granted peace and unity,” he said.

Ahmad Fadil issued the statement from the United Arab Emirates, where the King is now on a special five-day visit since December 18.

Sultan Abdullah will return tomorrow (December 25).

Ahmad Fadil added that the King will undergo Covid-19 screening upon arrival in Malaysia and quarantine as needed for those who have returned from abroad.

“His Majesty will celebrate New Year 2021 in Istana Negara under quarantine,” he said.
