Khairy: private hospitals are already used as vaccination centers

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Private hospitals such as Pantai Hospitals are already being used as vaccination centers for private healthcare workers for phase one of the National COVID-19 Immunization Program, says Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Khairy Jamaluddin.

Khairy, who is also the Coordinating Minister of the National Covid-19 Immunization Program, said the government will include more private hospitals for phase two and three as previously announced.

“Everything will be ready. The yield of 75,000 to 150,000 (vaccines) per day is for later phases,” he said in a Twitter post on Wednesday (March 3).

He was responding to the tweet by former health minister Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad, who said that the government should involve the private sector in a “Public-Private Partnership” that is effective and transparent for the implementation of the Covid-19 vaccine, if it is public. the capacity of the hospitals is insufficient.

Dr. Dzulkefly said it was to ensure the success of the immunization program and achieve herd immunity earlier (80% of the inoculated population).

Malaysia launched the first of three phases of the National Covid-19 Immunization Program on February 24, with the first deployment taking place from February to April this year, with the participation of 500,000 front-line people.

The second phase will be from April to August with the participation of people over 65 years of age and over, high-risk groups and people with disabilities (PwD), involving some 9.4 million people, while the third phase from May this year to February 2022 it will cover both Malays and non-citizens aged 18 and over, targeting more than 13.7 million people. – Bernama
